Paraglider Pilot Training
Introduction & Safety Session (2-3 hours)
This lesson will give you the opportunity to ask questions and help you decide if paragliding is for you. Learning to leave the ground under a paraglider takes time & commitment, we hope you’ll let us guide you on this exciting journey!
The lesson begins with basic paragliding concepts, safety procedures & more.
- Intro to the equipment (radio, paraglider, harness, etc.)
- Learn how to do a pre-flight check
- How to properly connect to the harness
- How to pack your paraglider
- Then, hands-on! You will don the gear, learn to connect the wing, inflate and launch your wing by running across flat ground with your wing flying above you. (All while staying on the ground).
One or two mornings on the training hill (3 hours per day)
- Designed for those with only a few days to help you decide if you want to pursue a Paraglider certification & continue your training.
- Includes our mandatory Introduction & safety session.
- You will begin to learn to ground handle a paraglider.
- Second day, if winds allow & you are ready, you’ll practice launching off a low hill, fly a straight, short distance & land.
P1 Beginner USHPA Certification (5-6 days)
The P1 certification program is a short course. You will not be ready to fly independently. You’ll be able to launch off a low hill in ideal weather, fly a straight, short distance & land. This course is your first step to becoming a Paraglider pilot & is part of the P2 training.
P2 Novice USHPA Certification
During P2 training you’ll learn to solo fly a paraglider & begin the journey of exploring the skies!
You will become confident handling a paraglider in the air and on the ground. Mandatory ground school is included where you’ll learn meteorology, risk assessment, and more.
The minimum requirements for P2 certification through the United States Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association (USHPA) are 35 flights, 7 flying days, and 8 hours of ground school.
Depending on the weather, your abilities & your time availability, this course can take 3-4 weeks or more.
We will teach you at your pace, our goal is to make you a safe, confident, well-trained pilot.
You’ll receive a task book, a list of the skills you’ll need to learn & then have signed off as your training progresses.
Schedule – Most lessons will be early mornings to take advantage of the gentle air. Paragliding is a weather dependent sport, and because safety is our first priority some lessons may be postponed due to weather conditions.
